The basic idea of the Biennale:
To give regional and national artists who work with animated films as part of an installation an exhibition opportunity as part of a recurring festival. To make the topic of animated film in the visual arts better known in the region. An exhibition of animated short films integrated into an art installation. Up to 10 installations will be shown.

Previous events:
The Biennale has already taken place twice, once in 2021 with 5 artists and once in 2023 with 18 artists. You can get an impression here:
https://kukav.de/animation-installation-2023-en/

The venues:
Various buildings close to the city centre that are currently vacant are being considered. A final selection is still pending.

Call for entries:
The Biennale is aimed at visual artists from the region, as well as national and international artists.
The jury consists of
– Anna-Maria Schindlbeck, Director of the Tuttlingen Gallery
– Ulvis Müller, visual artist and lecturer for Painting, Digital & Expanded Painting at TU Dortmund University
– Andreas Leutkart, board member of KUKAV, organiser of animation-installation

Works are accepted that in one way or another place animated images (such as computer animation (CGI, VR, AR, AI), stop motion or images animated by other means) in the context of a site-specific installation. Works that seek to address issues relevant to today’s society are favoured.
We can provide some equipment (projectors, screens, sound), but we are also happy to receive infrastructural support depending on the requirements and effort involved. As we are a non-profit organisation that is only financed through sponsorship, our financial resources are limited. For simpler installations, assembly by the KUKAV is possible according to instructions. The installation will take place in the week before the exhibition, from 26 September to 2 October. We will work closely with the artists to find a solution for each work we take on.

Renumeration:
There is no prize money this time, but each participating artist who comes to set up will receive a fee of 300 euros. Travel expenses can be reimbursed up to an amount of 300 euros, anything above this must be negotiated and depends on the effort involved and our finances. Lodging and accommodation will be organised privately and does not have to be paid for separately.

The call runs from 1 April to 31 May
